Founded in 2016 by Michael Colligan, what began as a single podcast quickly evolved into a full-service studio known for its expertise, innovation, and commitment to elevating voices. With the addition of co-executive producer Scott Wachter in 2019, Get a Grip Studios offers a blend of technical know-how, mentorship, and a range of services to support podcasters at every stage—from virtual production and professional coaching to legacy storytelling projects.

Michael Colligan’s Vision
Michael Colligan, founder of Get a Grip Studios Inc., is a passionate advocate for storytelling through podcasting. His journey began with Get a Grip on Lighting in 2016, where he faced—and overcame—the challenges of an industry lacking dedicated podcast resources. Today, as a host of many podcasts and an executive producer of several more, Michael oversees production, offers coaching services, and provides professional interviewing to guide others. His commitment to preserving legacies shines in the studio’s legacy podcasts, enabling people to capture the stories of elders and influential figures in their lives.

Our Story
A New Chapter of Co-Executive Leadership
Scott joined Michael as co-owner and co-executive producer of Get a Grip Studios Inc. Together, they partner with creators to produce high-quality content and offer coaching services, enhancing the impact of each project.
Scott Wachter Joins the Team
Scott Wachter, an experienced audiovisual technician, joined the team. He introduced essential tools, including a news aggregation service and a guest acquisition strategy, which helped creators source relevant content and improve production quality.
Expansion to Get a Grip Studios Inc.
Get a Grip Studios Inc. began recording podcasts for other creators. The business accelerated when the pandemic struck, as Michael helped individuals find their voice and start podcasts. Through his mentorship, 11 podcasters secured full funding through advertising, with some even achieving paid creator status—a rare success in the industry.
The Beginning of Get a Grip on Lighting
Michael Colligan launched Get a Grip on Lighting, a podcast that would grow beyond his wildest dreams. At the time, Toronto lacked dedicated podcast studios, and available online recording tools were unreliable for professional use. Michael faced setbacks with inconsistent freelance producers, but after assembling a dedicated team, he transformed his office and company lunchroom into a fully functional podcast studio.
